2017 NiUG New Orleans Conference Wrap-Up

Nearly 230 iMIS users, solution providers, consultants, and vendors gathered at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana on May 22-24. Check out the terrific photos taken throughout the three-day event by the attendees. We’ll be posting recordings of the sessions shortly, but in the meantime, here’s the rundown on from New Orleans.

With 30 partners and exhibitors, this year’s conference featured over 42 educational sessions, training classes, Subject Matter Expert Pods, and networking events. It all started on Monday morning with nearly 120 iMIS users participating in either full and half day training classes. Soon Yu, innovation and design expert, author, and conference emcee, kicked off the user’s portion of the conference on Tuesday morning and introduced NiUG International’s Executive Director, Michele Morgan.

Our keynote speaker, Brian Bordainick, Head of Innovative Ventures for the Hudson Bay Company, took to the stage next.  Brian’s presentation, Building an Organization from the Ground Up, took an intimate look at how the process of building an organization looks in the real world including the failures that no one talks about, the hardships, and the tragic mess-ups that are all part of the process. His talk illuminated how organizations can embody the entrepreneurial spirit to create a dynamic, engaging, and supportive culture.

During the New Orleans Conference, we also unveiled some new additions to the conference format including updated formats for pre-conference training, the Learning Tree, Subject Matter Expert Pods, the Job Board, Audience Polling, and Live Q & A.

It was evident throughout the conference that a major highlight of the event was not only the NiUG App but also our game, NiUG Go. In addition to earning points for a variety of conference activities including visiting exhibitors, submitting session evaluations, uploading photos to the gallery, testing their knowledge of New Orleans, attendees also had to seek out hidden flowers throughout the conference venue. Winners were announced on Wednesday afternoon during lunch and included:

There were so many ways to network in New Orleans and attendees took full advantage of the opportunities.  The conference kicked off with a Welcome Reception hosted by the NiUG partners and exhibitors at the Rampart Room on Monday evening.

Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, a short drive from the hotel was the destination for Tuesday night’s networking event. Attendees enjoyed drinks and dinner with a backdrop of exotic fish, mystical jellyfish, and rare white alligators.

The Speed Networking Hour returned to the agenda. This event was developed to connect iMIS users with each other in a non-intimidating way.

Social media again played a heightened role at this year’s conference. Along with the NiUG App, Twitter was a popular way to instantly share conference thoughts, images, and information. Below are some Twitter highlights from the 2017 NiUG New Orleans Conference.
